Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is situated along the Hrazdan River. Yerevan city was founded in 782 B.C. (almost 3000years ago). The site dates the city which eventually became Yerevan as older than Rome by 29 years! According to Armenian tradition, the name of Yerevan is derived from an expression exclaimed by King of Urartu – Argishti in Armenian while looking in the direction of Yerevan from the top of mount Ararat: “Yerevats” (it appeared). The master architectural plan for modern day Yerevan was drawn up by Alexander Tamanian from 1924 to 1926. The most popular sights in Yerevan are: Republic Square, The Cascade, Matenadaran, Erebuni Town Fortress and others.
